In 1960 Bruce Halle rented a small storefront in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His inventory consisted of four retreaded tires and two new tires. Now the Arizona-resident's Discount Tire Company operates more than 590 stores across the U.S. Nearly 45 years after Halle sold his first tire, the Discount Tire Company and its 10,000 employees sell more than $1.5 billion worth of tires and tire accessories each year. The founder of the world's largest independent tire retailer invited The Times in for a look around his personal office, part of the $23 million, 162,000 square-foot headquarters built in 2002.
