DOUG MOSS
PRESIDENT & CEO OF THE PHOENIX COYOTES

It’s Doug Moss’ job to keep the ice hot in the Valley.

As president and CEO of the Phoenix Coyotes, Moss oversees all of the day-to- day business operations of the team, managing the Coyotes for the National Hockey League.

“It’s a very diverse position,” he says. “You can never get bored. You’re never doing one thing more than ten minutes before you have to do something else.”

Prior to joining the Coyotes, Moss served as president and CEO of the Buffalo Sabres, and before that he was vice president of business operations for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks as well as president of the International Hockey League.

For Moss, hockey is a lifelong passion. “This isn’t a job; it’s a lifestyle,” he says. “I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.”

This month, the Open Door Policy crew visited Moss’ Glendale office, located just across from Jobing.com arena. Decorated with black-and-white hockey murals, Moss’ office is filled with mementos representing some of his fondest career memories.

“I guess I’m a person who appreciates these moments,” he says

1. Picture of Moss’ fiancée, Julie. The couple plans to marry in March.
2. Ipod speaker. “I love music. I probably have 6,000 songs on my Ipod. I like jazz, rock and old standards. Or give me Metallica. It really depends on my mood.”
3. Panoramic photograph of when the New York Rangers won the Stanley Cup on June 14, 1994, while Moss was in charge of sales at Madison Square Garden. “This is what we do all this for. It still gives me goosebumps.”
4. Photo of Moss with other Coyotes officials from October 25, 2006, when they announced naming rights of the Glendale arena to Jobing.com.
5. Autographed photo of hockey Hall of Famer Phil Esposito, during his playing days with the New York Rangers.
6. Coyotes head coach and hockey legend Wayne Gretzky-autographed jersey. “I think I inherited that when I came on with the team.”
7. Winston Churchill framed photograph, which includes the quote, “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.” “Churchill is one of my heroes.”
8. One of the two televisions in Moss’ office. He sometimes uses them to watch two hockey games at once.
9. Bon Jovi framed ticket and album cover from a recent concert at the arena. “I am a big fan of Bon Jovi. That was a sold-out show.”
10. Keys to Moss’ car, a 2007 Porsche Boxster S.
11. A piece of hockey net from when Coyotes goaltender Curtis Joseph became the 9th goaltender in NHL history to reach a 400th-win plateau.
12. Mural of Wayne Gretsky coaching the Coyotes.
13. Autographed photograph of former Yankee Joseph “Moose” Skowron. “I grew up in New Jersey as a Yankees fan. Bill and his family lived in my hometown, and I went to
school with his son.”
14. Collection of hockey-player bobbleheads given away as collectables at various Coyotes games.
15. A memento from when Mark Messier’s No. 11 jersey was retired at Madison Square Garden.
16. Former Arizona Diamondback Mark Grace-signed baseball. Moss is an avid baseball fan.
17. Picture on the day Moss signed a beam used in construction of the arena.
18. Ticket from opening night at the Glendale arena.
