Craig Weatherup
Retired Chief Executive of the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company

In January 2003, Craig Weatherup retired from his position as the chief executive officer of the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company. As a graduate of Arizona State University, Mr. Weatherup is a hometown successful executive who ascended to exceptional corporate heights. In retirement, Mr. Weatherup invests much of his time, energy and money back into his alma mater, where he also has an office. “I am very committed to the vision of this University. Now is the time to really move ASU to the forefront on the athletic field and that enormously benefits the University,” he said. In addition, Weatherup sits on the boards of Starbucks, Macy’s and the Arizona Nature Conservancy.

Mr. Weatherup recently invited the Open Door Policy crew into that ASU space where he channels the fruits of an extremely successful career into the educational lives of a future generation of executive leaders.

His motto: No time out for leaders. “Leadership is a stunning privilege that is given to you by others, those you lead. You can’t take time outs.”

1.When Weatherup, chairman of the Arizona State University Foundation, is in Arizona, he spends the majority of his time in other people’s offices. “I don’t use this office very much, but when I’m here it’s pretty intense.”
2. This notebook contains the contact information of the 53 trustees, of which no more than half are alumni. Like Weatherup – who is an ASU alum (1967) – they see that “this University is so central to the Valley and the state … they want to support it and help it move forward.”
3. “If I haven’t been around in a few weeks, it gets pretty full.”
4. This report was for a meeting with the Arizona Nature Conservancy in Flagstaff.
5. In the mornings there may be a cup of coffee on one of these coasters. His favorite drink is a nonfat latte from Starbucks, of course.
6. Glass teacher’s apple. “I was given a teacher’s apple by Dr. Crow for actually working at the University.”
7. Copy of The Times.
8. The football is for his grandsons. Speaking of sports, Weatherup and his wife gave a $5 million gift to ASU to build a basketball practice facility. The project is scheduled to commence in March and be completed within one year.
9. Contact information of people in the office.
10. Photo was taken two years ago at his New York home in the Adirondack Mountains while he was cross-country skiing.
11. “SkySong is something that I am very involved with … a major undertaking for the University.”
12. His “secret door” to the board room. [NOT PICTURED, IT'S SECRET.]
